i am one of your grateful readers who thinks good thoughts about you daily, and today i'm grateful for your good news. so, more good thoughts to you for more good news. and less pain.
(also, poetry would be nice: your call, of course)
Oh terrible! My baroque lute got seriously damaged. I didn't do it, likely the top peeled off because of impact damage during transport. I need to see if it's fixable....
That's too bad. It's tempting say something trite about it being relatively unimportant in "the big picture", but I'm sure it must have felt like a devastating blow on top of everything else you've been dealing with....better things are coming though!
This is very good news, perhaps not as good as you were hoping for, but still good news. I have a friend who is a senior oncologist. She told me that early in her career the prognosis for most cancer patients was very poor, and her job very depressing. Today she sees the enormous strides in treatment and survival. I hope you continue on this path and that your pain subsides. I was on major pain meds for a couple of years and was unable to write until I got off of them. Best wishes for more good news.
I’m very glad the news is positive and that you’re able to think ahead about teaching and your book. I think the topic of death would be a good one to teach about. In my experience, students now have more experiences with it than you might expect: family members or peers from their communities, whether from drugs, disease, accidents, guns, or suicide.
Dear Helen - reading this has given me such joy and gratitude. I'm just a random person on the internet but you, your writing and work have given me a great deal in many ways. I hope your pain - in all its manifestations - is eased and you find equanimity and joy.

This news has brightened my day. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this excellent news - I hope you get relief from the pain!
Sorry about the lingering pain, but this is great to hear, Helen. 🙏🏼
That you're thinking about your book and teaching is fabulous! How are things on the lute front?

I’m so glad for you, Helen.
It’s my turn to see the oncologist tomorrow and I am not expecting good news. I wish I could find a supplier of Laudanum!
So good to hear!! Also, one more vote for the poetry, why not post it right here on substak... before the drugs subside!
Great!
The day - in Genesis - begins with the Eve. So wait for the morning!
Hannah Arendt: natality.
I wish you well!
Wonderful news!

I'm so heartened to hear the good news! I hope the next bit of good news is that the tumor is shrinking along with the pain.
Delighted with your progress. Even more delighted with the prospect of you writing about death. I trust you have read Yalom’s Existential Psychotherapy, Staring at the Sun and A matter of death and life? And Ernest Becker’s Denial of Death? It would be great to hear your take on it all. Godehard Bruntrup’s work on near death experiences is very interesting too. https://www.google.com/gasearch?q=near%20death%20experience%20godehard%20bruntrip&source=sh/x/gs/m2/5#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:e6e59e41,vid:cSvfoKZnnYs,st:0
I'm happy to hear this! I wish you all the best with the immunotherapy and the book.
Immunotherapy can be very effective - I pray it works well for you.
Excellent news. Wishing wind to your sails on the book project.
