I finally watched Babette’s Feast (Gabriel Axel, 1987), a Danish movie about a French housekeeper, Babette, who organizes a big and sumptuous feast for her employers, two elderly single sisters.
What a beautiful and inspiring essay. Babette’s Feast is one of my all time favorite films. Now watch, for reminder of the fragility of life, love, choice, “The Unbearable Lightness of Being.”
Oh, so amazingly good and gorgeous. It was a book/film combo I used in my “books on film” book club where we looked at how the film did or did not enhance understanding and appreciation of a work of literary fiction. Also in the group “Accidental Tourist” -live without fear- and “Remains of the Day” -live without regrets.

I read the book but I never watched the movie. I will do so!

Did you read the book of Babette's Feast by Isak Dinesen/Karen Blixen? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts!
