Happy new year. To say 2024 was rough for me would be an understatement. Here's hoping to a better 2025. I am very pleased that my flash fiction story, “The Diamond Mountain” was just published by the illustrious magazine Kaleidotrope. It's a story that wonders about the problem of boredom in heaven (aka the “tedium of immortality") and it features a cute dog. I thought of this story when conceiving it as my dark Kiki's delivery service.
Hope you enjoy. Also, I have a story out in AcademFic earlier that is written in the style of an epistolary novel, a sapphic tale of two girls in a boarding school who have to test their loyalties (note: a lot of early modern philosophy is packed into this one: Condorcet, Spinoza, Descartes, among others).
I also have a novella that will come out with Pink Hydra Press, a small South African press. It is a romance and fantasy story set in a close parallel of the end of the Dutch Republic, 18th century, right before the French revolution, and it tells the story of an unlikely romance between an unhoused magician and a university librarian.
I intend to keep on writing fiction in addition to this Substack (thank you so much readers) and academic writing.
